Who we are
About the Band
horizontal · high resolution
The Spectators are a twelve-piece Rock & Soul Revue based in Las Vegas: the five-piece Sin City Horns, a rhythm section of Hammond organ, two guitars, bass and drums, and two lead singers — one male, one female.
The band was founded by Dr. LeRoy Henry, a retired Navy musician and graduate of Berklee College of Music.
What makes the group unusual is who’s in it: seasoned professionals playing alongside students from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, the College of Southern Nevada, and UNLV. Players who have been doing this for forty years sit next to players who are just starting, and the music is better for it.
That mix is also why the band sounds the way it does. Soul and funk arrangements were written for full ensembles — horn stabs, organ pads, layered backing vocals, parts that only work when everyone is there. Most bands for hire in this town shrink that down to four or five people and hope nobody notices. We don’t.
You can hear us regularly at The OG Sand Dollar Lounge, Soul Belly BBQ and Roadkill Grill. Our live album The Spectators Live at The OG Sand Dollar is out now on Apple Music, TIDAL, Amazon Music and iHeartRadio.
